SEQWater Recreation access update
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:29:07 AM »
Recreation facilities – closures and safety UPDATE (Monday, 11 March)
Water-based recreation activities
Lake Baroon was re-opened to water-based recreation activities from midday Friday, 8 March 2013. Lake Somerset was re-opened to water-based recreation activities on Thursday, 7 March 2013.

The following Seqwater lakes remain closed to ALL water based activities:
Lake Borumba
Lake Kurwongbah (Sideling Creek Dam)
Lake Samsonvale (North Pine Dam)
Lake Wyaralong Western Trailhead lagoon (adjoining Lilybrook Homestead) will be closed from 6.00 am Tuesday, 12 March 2013. Please note, the main body of Lake Wyaralong remains open.

The temporary closure of these lakes is a precautionary measure based on inflows into the lakes and potential adverse water quality in the lakes as a result of the current rainfall event.

Water quality samples will be taken as soon as practical, and the lakes will be re-opened as soon as conditions indicate that it is appropriate to do so.

The above lakes will remain CLOSED until further notice. Signage will be placed at public recreation areas advising of the temporary closure.

Please note that the Eastern boat ramp at Hinze Dam remains closed, pending rectification works on the access road. The Western boat ramp at Hinze Dam is open during normal opening hours (6am to 6pm).

Other Seqwater lakes are currently open. Seqwater urges caution to all visitors due to changing conditions at the lakes.

Land-based recreation activities
Seqwater recreation areas and camping grounds are currenlty open to visitors, with the exception of the following recreation areas which have been closed:
CLOSED – Lake Baroon – Martin Williams Nature Walk at the Southern Recreation area and the Lake Baroon section of the Great Walk are both closed due to track damage associated with the recent weather event. Other recreation areas at Lake Baroon are open for land-based recreation activities.
CLOSED – Lake Moogerah - Lower Recreation Area (Reynolds Creek) is closed due to fallen rocks and debris on access road.
CLOSED – Hinze Dam, Eastern Boat Ramp due to damage to access road.
CLOSED – Little Nerang Dam – access road is closed due to storm damage. Will remain closed until further notice.
CLOSED – Lake Manchester walking trails and recreation areas due to flooding as a result of the dam spilling
CLOSED – All recreation trails at Wyaralong Dam, due to wet conditions. Mt Joyce Base Camp is also closed due to the trail closures.
Both the Eastern and Western Trail Head recreation areas are open, as well as the lake itself.
The Gravity Enduro Mountain Bike event on 10 March has been postpone due to trail closures.

Visitors to all Seqwater sites are urged to take precautions and exercise care when visiting due to debris and the possible damage to infrastructure and trees. Visitors should check road conditions before setting off to visit Seqwater lakes and recreation facilities.

NPD has been a long time closed, considering we didn't get all that much rain.
