Northern Adventures
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:30:04 AM »
Well folks have been away from the forum for 6 months taking the family on a tropical north Queensland and PNG touring adventure (hilux, 4wd trailer, dingy, canoe) - up the east coast across to Weipa up to the tip and back to Cairns across to Papua New Guinea and home.  Its been great for the kids they've grown and learn't heaps including about dad's tropical origins. It wasn't all work and no play I kept about a week's work per month (on average) going to cover the diesel bill !  Following pictures give some insight into our freshwater pusuits (have to post saltwater fishing exploits elsewhere) - included barra in north Queensland and the Cape, Saratoga in the Cape, Jungle perch in north Queensland and PNG and other little jewels like snakeheads, tarpon and coal grunters.  Planned PNG missions for black and spot tail bass had to be cut shorth when Jules came down with 3 days of scary serious fever - found the spot where they were tho... Next time!!

I was just thinking the other day that we haven't seen Jim's wise words of late on Sweetwater, now we know what you have been up to. Looks like an awesome time was had by all.  :Clap)

Those Snakehead Gudgeons sure are pretty fish. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Dave.

Steve,

I didn't have a real close look but think the gudgeon is a subadult male snakehead - We were on New Ireland and I don't thinkand of teh Mogurndas get across there, yeah the little silver jungle perch K marginata were common as in the streams!

Dont think so, not aware of any of the mogurndas making it across to the Islands M. cingulata is only southern PNG as far as I'm aware - east coast of New Ireland is a long swim away for a freshwater fish....
