Come net a carp at the 6th Annual Carp Muster

Come catch a carp at the Narrabri Carp Muster on Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 March 2013.
11 Feb 2013
Anglers are encouraged to come along and join in the celebrations during the 6th Annual Carp Muster in Narrabri on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 March 2013.

The event hosted by the Narrabri Amateur Fishing Club and NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) provides an opportunity for the general public to catch a carp, win a prize and learn about the importance of protecting and enhancing native fish habitat in the Namoi River.

NSW DPI Conservation Manager, Milly Hobson said the DPI has been a long standing partner in the event and the day offers a great chance for the community to hear the latest work being done as part of the Namoi Demonstration Reach project.

“During the event we will showcase some of the great projects being undertaken by landholders, community groups and private industry to improve fish habitat along the Namoi River between Gunnedah and Narrabri,” Ms Hobson said.

“Landholders along the Namoi River are encouraged to come and talk to staff about current funding available to undertake tree planting along the river associated with weed control, offstream stock water and fencing anywhere between Gunnedah and Mollee Weir.

“Community interest has grown with each year, culminating in a record breaking 556 people registering for last year’s carp muster, a figure that organisers are hoping to break this year.”

The 2013 Narrabri Carp Muster is once again proudly sponsored by Boggabri Coal who has helped make the event highly successful over the past three years.

President of the Narrabri Amateur Fishing Club, Robert Bruce, said every person who enters the Carp Muster this year will again be in the running for some great prizes even if they are not successful in catching a carp.

“There will be thousands of dollars worth of prizes on offer including a ten foot tinny and motor, kayaks, fishing and camping gear and plenty of vouchers generously donated by local businesses,” Mr Bruce said.

“The Narrabri Amateur Fishing Club will once again be donating 50% of all proceeds from the registration over the weekend to Life Worth Living, Narrabri District ‘Awareness, Education, Suicide prevention’ so we ask everyone to dig deep and give a little extra over the weekend. “I encourage everyone to come along and register at the Crossing Theatre on the day and spend the weekend having a fish on the banks of the Namoi River, enjoying a free BBQ, and learning about how you can help native fish living in the Namoi.”

When I retire I am going to become a grey fisherman nomad, cruise around all these wonderful comps put on by local fishing clubs.!

Managed to get to a few over a couple of years when  I had a bit of spare of spare cash and time a few years ago, thoroughly enjoyed myself.
