NPD and Kurwongbah SEQ water review released
« on: April 14, 2014, 04:35:00 PM »

Boating
In order to protect our drinking water supplies it is necessary to continue to
restrict the use of watercraft on Lake Samsonvale. The initial risk assessment
looking at the impact of increased on-water recreational activities at Lake
Samsonvale has indicated that further comprehensive analysis is required before
any fi nal determinations can be made.
In order to manage the watercraft on the lake, boating access continues to be
permitted only through the Lake Samsonvale Water Sports Association or the
Pine Rivers Fish Management Association at this stage.
Kurwongbah
Open access for paddle craft via Mick Hafling park once facalities provided.
Full details on seq water website
Cheers
Ray

How long will PRFMA still receive the permit fee for?  SEQWater keep saying one permit for all their lakes come October 2014, and yet they continue to allow PRFMA to double dip.  This doesn't seem right to me.  This entire "public consultation" process is starting to look like a farce.

Found this in the press release on Kurwongbah.

The opening up of Lake Kurwongbah to the community for kayaking and canoeing means water skiing will no longer be permitted on the lake.

Members of the Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone club will be provided with free boat permits for three years to use Lake Somerset. The recreation guides for Lakes Samsonvale and Kurwongbah can be found at www.seqwater.com.au/recreview.
Would be nice for old ski club lease area opened for public use as that is where the best land based fishing is.
Cheers

Double dip????
Please explain there is no mention of SEQ water charging an access fee for NPD in the review release.

Sorry, I meant that PRFMA receive funds from the SIP program as well as funds from the Boating Permit program.  I don't know of any other groups that have that opportunity, but we've had this discussion before.  The permit fees for Wivenhoe and for Somerset go directly to SEQWater while the permit fees for Samsonvale go directly to PRFMA.  What will happen when SEQWater introduce the one permit for all lakes system, will Samsonvale be different again?  Will the permit say "For all SEQWater controlled lakes and dams except Lake Samsonvale."

It would be nice to see the figures from the surveys to see exactly what the majority wanted and what they are being given.

Will have to wait and see what SEQ water will do.
Re the double funding PRFMA puts all its monies raised from the boating fees ( Apart from insurances and maintaining the ramp area) back into stocking.
The sip monies only provide around 25% of the current stocking budget.
Boating fees have provided the bulk of fingerlings stocked into NPD details are on PRFMA website for all to see.
Cheers

Great outcome for Kurwongbah, was very disappointed when it looked like it was being handed to the waterskiers after all the effort and public monies that went to create the fishery. Hopefully Samsonvale will be opened to all for non motorised/paddleceraft  as promised after this "comprehensive analysis" is completed. This also now means Lake Kurwongbah meets the guidelines for inclusion on the SIPS  :popcorn)

Regarding Kurwongbah & paddlecraft.... This is exactly the outcome I was hoping for when the stocking program was started. A classic thin edge of the wedge.  ;D

I would agree. Kurwongbah also needs to be excluded from Bass closed season....  :popcorn)

Would be a fait accompli when the current Freshwater RIS is released you would think  :popcorn)
