2012 Brisbane River Classic-Wivenhoe Kayak and Canoe Convention
« on: September 18, 2012, 11:17:28 PM »
Myself and three mates launched from the end of Lindemans Road in Lowood on Saturday morning to start our assault on the Brisbane River Classic.
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Lowood,+Queensland&hl=en&ll=-27.457155,152.590485&spn=0.002585,0.005284&sll=-32.010396,135.119128&sspn=76.758493,173.144531&oq=Lowood&hnear=Lowood+Queensland&t=h&z=18

The weather could not have been better, a little fresh early but with very little wind.

The fishing was very slow in the river with only a rat bass each for most of us. Mine fell to a sub-surface lure.

We paddled up as far as the log jam below Harpeng Road, all of the Bass came from this part of the river.

Rather than pushing on further( which would require a drag around annabranch's log jam) we decided to head back. No further fish were caught on the way back.

Day two saw us enter the river just downstream from Heart Attack Hill(launched from private property) , more of the same unusual quietness for the river again. Except for the elder statesman of our group who managed to land a very good yella.

His 57cm effort certainly gave him the motivation to pull out all stops and find a good Bass. But alas , only rats were forthcoming.
Had a great weekend anyway, always nice to be out on the water with fellow yakkers. The glassed out conditions on the Lake did look very inviting though. I was entered in both lake and river and I am kicking myself I was to lazy to give them both a go.

Cheers,
Dave.

Dale,
Before I met you on the week-end, you probably could have got away with that.  Who can tell on the internet, you might have been some sort of Adonis.................................but now I've seen your melon ?

Brad,
Next time Migaloo turns up I'll see if we can get a photo of you hiding behind him.  Another opportunity might be the next beaching?

Seriously tho, that yellowbelly that Squarebear caught was the biggest Golden Perch right up until the end of the session until Ollie came in with his 58cm model. Will have to look at the points, but a rat bass on Saturday might have seen Squarebear on the podium..... Well done anyway mate, that's a cracker yella.  :thumb

I didn't mean to offend Jeff, but I was nursing my grand daughter when I opened that pic.   When she saw your face she screamed so loud that she woke the dog.  The dog looked at the screen and crapped on the carpet and ran outside.
Nice yella though.
