The guys from Hook, Line and Sinker fished Awoonga yesterday. They got 3 around 80cm and dropped another 3. I have heard reports of other successes there recently too. Let's hope it gets back to its former glory.

Gday
Is kayak ok or do you bass boat to cover more distance . Looking at barra fishing in fresh water. What line and leader is recommended? I got a 2-4kg graphite rod with 10 pound braid and 10 pound FC . And a 4-7kg rod with 12 pound super PE 15 pound FC leader . Any good or need something heavier?

I have only had the one successful hook-up myself, and have no problems with anyone who knows better correcting me, but I would think from a kayak that your 4-7kg rod is fine. I think your line may need to be heavier. I used 15lb braid, and your trace needs to be a lot heavier. I was told to use 60lb mono, because the line will be cut if too light. I hope that helps. Also, if you want to use the kayak and are worried about the distance, try Kinchant Dam, near Mackay. My wife and I both caught Barra within 300 metres of our campsite. ( mine went 94cm and hers went 110cm ) It's a long way from Ipswich, but it is the only place we are interested to go back to.
Cheers
