Line guide question

Hi guys,
I do all of my fishing with a couple of pflueger trion rods and as I understand it they use Fuji alconite guides. I have never really had any problem with them so I was wondering, other then being lighter in weight, are there any advantages more expensive types of guides like titanium?

Glen,
Titanium is lighter but also seems to do better in salt water.  Alconite guides are fine in fresh water and under normal bass/bream/flatte situations if washed after use.  From what I know about guides silicon carbide guides are better at dispersing heat so therefore are better on rods used for hard running fish like pelagics that like to rip hundreds of meters of line from a reel.  I still have one of my first soft plastic rods, a pflueger trion (non split butt), very good blank for the $$$ and the guides are still fine.  I now use a lot of high end japanese rods for bassin/breamin and most come with silicon carbide guides, I guess they use them on their rods because they are top end stuff!  Sweetwater is lucky to have a brilliant rod builder as a member "Acidic" is his name and I'm sure if he has time he will contirbute to this topic as he is a wealth of knowledge on everything to do with rods and bits & pieces.

Everything you have said makes good sense. I guess because I generally target bream, flathead and bass alconite guides can handle this kind of work load.
