Lake Moogerah remains closed to water based recreation activities

Lake Moogerah remains closed to water based recreation activities (UPDATED Monday, 30 September) - SEQWater

Lake Moogerah remains closed to all water-based recreation activities including boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. The lake was closed on Friday, 20 September 2013 due to unacceptably high levels of bacteria detected in routine testing. This closure has been made as a precautionary measure and in the interest of public safety.

Seqwater recommends that all people avoid contact with the raw untreated lake water during the temporary closure of the lake.

Signage has been erected on site advising of the temporary closure of the lake.

Additional water quality testing at Lake Moogerah indicates that the lake should remain closed to all water-based recreation activities.

Seqwater will be conducting further water quality monitoring, and the lake will be re-opened as soon as it is prudent to do so. Currently, it is not known when the lake will be re-opened to water-based recreation activities. The decision to re-open the lake will be subject to the receipt of acceptable water quality results and will be made in consultation with Queensland Health.

Seqwater appreciates that this temporary closure has disrupted plans for visits to Lake Moogerah during the school holiday period, however the temporary closure of the lake is in the interests of public safety.

Seqwater’s land-based recreation facilities at Lake Moogerah, such as the picnic areas at Haigh Park, are not affected by this temporary closure.
