G'day all,
Currently saving up for a Fish finder for the yak and I've selected 2 which i'm fairly keen on. Would like know what people thoughts are the 2 models suggested.
I fish mainly rivers and pretty soon will be heading to the Big W every chance i get, well hopefully.
cheers Brad.

I would suggest that you go to a Humminbird. I've never found a Garmin sounder that can compete with a humminbird.

I have had all sorts of sounders over the years, I'm still into Humminbird in a big way but I bought an Echo 300 recently for one of my kayaks and I have to say for the money it is pretty good. Paid low 200's, it has reasonable pixel count, Color Screen, Dual Beam, the list goes on...The screen is small but hey its only 200 bucks, right.
Don't think I would use it for hunting down Bass in Wivenhoe as I use the Bird for that but it seems to be an ok sounder...
Cheers

:thanks
Nativeman sorry to be a pain however why wouldn't you go a garmin for Wivenhoe??
PLus what model Hummerbird do you use or would recommend and why??
Cheers Brad.

You need pretty good sounder for finding bass in deep water at wivenhoe. The lower pixel count models, cannot show fish properly.

My Garmin Echo 300 Pixels 320 x 240, Power 300 Watts Screen 3.5"Diag, Ok would still do the job but the bird has more resolution, easier to spot fish and shows more detail. Really I just bought the Garmin to compare, its ok but the Bird is heaps better.
My Humminbird 597ci Pixels 640 x 480 Power 300 Watta Screen 4.5 Diag plus it has maps and gps. so easy to mark fish on the go. Would Upgrade to HD model with Down Imaging if I could afford it.
Cheers

Shame i have a Budget of $300 :( Owell, The finder will be mainly used in Wivenhoe dam so i think i may look into the hummerbird abit more.
