Title: Talipia on the Fly Rod

G'day fella,
I have been off line for several weeks so I am sorry if I am repeating something that may have been already discussed.

I am going to give the Talipia a bit of a run on the fly rod and I have been told it is working with wet flys.  Buzzers and Chironomids in the shallows.

Has anybody got any more to add to this.  I will go armed with all the weapons if you have any advice.

G'Day Gordon I have fly fished for Tilapia and Peacock Bass in Singapore back in 2005 and the most popular flies were variations of Crazy Charlies and Gotchas. Small bead chain clousers worked well for me in Tan over White (size #4). Pearl,white,olive and tan colours should cover most situations. If you log onto FlyFishSingapore website and get onto the forum you can read a heap of stuff on fly fishing for them. The guys over there are ultra light specialists some even using #0 weight gear. My first session on the peacocks yielded 8 bass on a Winston #2 weight which took some getting used to. The next two trips I used a #4 weight and a full sink clear intermediate line (Scientific Angler Stillwater line ) this line has been great for Aussie Bass and Yellowfin Pike here.Here's a couple of pics. I've caught them as by catch in the Brisbane River on clousers. Haven't really gone & targetted them on fly tho.

We will make a Sport Fish out of this yet.

Sorry Gordon I cannot agree.  History shows us that when you make a "Sport Fish" out of a feral or noxious specie, you finish up with a negative impact on our native species.  Tilapia anglers would be only too happy to translocate these into other waters where they can target them easily.  Before you deny this would happen, look into English Perch, European Carp and Trout.  Tilapia are a scourge on our fishery.  They must remain a noxious species and continue to be treated as such.

Your right Dale, I understand.

When you get to 68 years old it all looks like a sport.  I will be out there doing my best to eradicate this pest.   Hard work but I will give it a go.

I have recently started fishing and since then I am trying for this but didn't succeeded.Can you please provide me some tips
