My Custom Kayak Loader/Carrier to suit Cruiser Ute
« on: November 29, 2010, 08:41:49 PM »
G'day all

I thought I would share my ideas of my Kayak Loader/rack. It just may give someone some new ideas. I'm lucky enough to have a good mate that is a whiz with this sort of stuff. All the welding is his fine work.

I came up with this because I'm a short arse and my ute has about 5 1/2 inches of lift. I couldn't physically get the new ultra 4.7 up and onto the roof without it being a mission. I also didn't want any roof racks as the ute is high enough as it is.

This set up takes about 2 minutes to fully pack or unpack, Simple, easy, effortless. only 1 strap. Add another 30 seconds to have the complete kayak and rack removed completely from vehicle.

I wont go into all the building details as this really will only fit a cruiser ute. I have photos of each step if anyone wants more info I will be glad to share.

Cheers
Jono

Now to make use of it.

Holy cow, that's an awesome job mate, a bloody ripper.  :youbeauty

Only thing I can think to mention is to be careful on the inserts through the scupper holes. If they're rubbing on the side of the scupper when travelling, eventually it could wear a hole.

Well done & thanks for sharing. Nice shed by the way.

Thanks fellas

Fitzy. It shouldn't rub I hope as the kayak is clamped in with no movement available, also the tubes are covered with that really good ($$$) heat shrink with the glue/resin cr@p inside. Its pretty soft, But I will keep an eye on it. Thanks.

Just needs a lick of paint and some use.

Cheers

I like it too, but as Fitzy said, watch out for the scupper holes.

Like most Kayaker's I consider the scupper holes to be the weakest part of the kayak.

I know of a few fella's that do a similar thing with their yaks getting them up on top of the ute.

Here's a Link to Lantana's(Eric) attempt, he's a member here but he left this detailed post on the ECKFC forum showing how he did it on his ute.
