Glenlyon dam
« on: January 15, 2013, 09:03:58 PM »
Hi guys

I'm going out to glenlyon for the weekend and having never fished the dam before any help would be greatly appreciated as far as any spots or structure to target etc
I have a good selection of large spinnerbaits, deep divers ac invaders Garras etc
Any help would be great and any good tackle shops to hit up on the way from brissie north side too always good to top up the lure collection.
Cheers Jonno

Its got way more water in it than it ever had when I have fished it, so cant help with any spots! I used to love tossing lures around the sunken trees about half way up the dam, but they would have to be awful deep divers to do that now!
Brian and Debbie will fill you in when you get there.

If you are going through Wallangarra, the small general store on the left as you head south has a good range of Garra lures for very reasonable prices. As far as fishing spots, the area around the caves is a good start. Brian & Debbie will put you on the right track. Good luck.

Get your info and lures from Brian and Debbie at the dam. They will be aqble to give the latest info and what lures are working at the moment. Good honest people and no bull.
They have a great range of proven local handcrafted lures at reasonable prices.

Not a bad idea to have some knowledge before you get there though, in case Brian and Deb are out like they were when I turned up ;)

It always helps to buy something from someone who's brain you want to pick. Leave a few dollars on the Dare counter. Try throwing lures, particularly spinnerbaits on the shadow side of any trees in the dam. Just let the spinnerbait chopper down the trunk or even a bit further out as long as its in the shadow.

Yep, Brian knows Glenlyon Dam, just ask him about when he hit a tree & his boat ended up in another tree.  ;D Funny stuff. Will be a shame to see the Dare's leave as I'm told the park is sold & they're retiring into Tenterfield. Well deserved retirment.  :thumbsup
