Escape with ET?
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:53:21 PM »
I watched this show yesterday, and he had a segment on Kayak fishing in Somerset Dam.  He mentioned (ad nauseum) Ocean Kayak, Hummingbird (he should learn to pronounce Humminbird, they pay him enough!) Shimano, BLA, BCF, Minn Kota, Century Batteries and Pirtek.  Shame he didn't acknowledge the Volunteer Stocking Group who provide the fishery.

I fish because the little voices in my head tell me to.

Unfortunately its the same story with most shows....  But  as mentioned above they get their money from somewhere and the condition is that they advertise.

I've fished with Andrew a couple of times on photo shoots and found him to be a nice fella, down to earth.

While I don't begrudge anyone making a quid, the advertorial does come across a bit much to me as well.

I recon prior to the SIP we had a greater right to jump up and down about recognising the work / fundraising that fish stocking groups do. Now with SIP, people pay their way via their hard earned coin. In saying that, it wouldn't have hurt to mention the on going work by the relevant group who created & maintain the fishery; common courtesy IMHO.

I have no doubt that Andrew is a loverly bloke, I recall him giving my son his autograph quite a few years back. However I think he's exceeding the quota a bit with the advertorials, and I don't watch it any more for that reason. The 4wd "roadtests" are just another Toyota ad as are all the plugs for his fishing lodge. I have no problem with commercial reality, but there IS a limit.
