Onya SEQ Water.
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:49:21 AM »
I am usually pretty fast to bag procasteration and ineptitude from different bodies so its a pleasure to congratulate SEQ water for a very fast response.
last night at around 5.30 pm I sent an email to them re incorrect signage at the temp ramp of the eastern arm of the hinze dam.
Just after 8am this morning I got the following email.

Ray,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The sign is incorrect - I should have checked more thoroughly before they were printed.

I have asked our Lead Ranger for Hinze, Laurie Fairall, to remove the ones that indicate that you need a SIPS permit. We will get replacements printed advising that a permit is required (as per the signage at the permanent ramps).

I have also asked Laurie to look into putting some gravel at the base of the ramp to improve access, as per your request.

If you have any further queries, please contact us.

Regards,

Dom

Thumbs up to SEQW for the quick response.
How do you get funding for restocking Ray?

Cheers Andrew

Andrew I am not a member of the stocking group but I am fairly certain that they rely on the sale of permits which are only $40 per annum or $5 per week . I think previously they got some support from the council but do not know what has happened since the dam was taken over by SEQ water.
You used to be able to purchase permits from the rangers but that is no longer possible which is rather strange seeing that the rangers at Wivenhoe and Sommerset can sell you a permit to fish tose 2 dams.
These are the places that sell the permits.
Nerang Disposals Camping & Outdoor Store 10 Spencer Road, Nerang  (07) 5596 4434
Miami Bait and Tackle  4/ 2088 Gold Coast Highway, Miami  (07) 5572 8270

All the money from the permits at Hinze goes to the Hinze Stocking Group.  It's a bit weird, it's a bit like SEQW handing over the boating permit money to SWFSA.  Similar to NPD, where you pay your boating permit fee to the Stocking Group, but then you need a SIP.

Dale there is a small difference to your examples as there is no boating fee involved on Hinze ..so at Hinze the Fishing permit is a defacto SIP.

So in fact, both Hinze  fishing permits and SIP are fund raisers, going to their respective stocking groups.

But cannot help but think the boating fee is a bit of a rip off, when there is no fee if carried on the car roof, but a fee is involved if the boat is trailered to the water.

Actually fished there today for the first time and saw that sign and thought maybe a rule change or such. Well done on your action.

"But cannot help but think the boating fee is a bit of a rip off, when there is no fee if carried on the car roof, but a fee is involved if the boat is trailered to the water."
Doesnt really matter if the monies raised end up with the stocking group. I bet all the ski lice grit their teeth realising that their fees end up with the despised fishos who get in their way. ;D
At NPD you pay for access to the site and all monies raised go towards restocking apart from a small ammount that is required for insurances and site maitenance as per conditions of our lease from SEQ water.
Cheers

I don't think you understand Ray, none of the Boating Permit money from Wivenhoe or Somerset end up with the stocking group.  Not a cent.  It goes to SEQWater whereas the Hinze Boating money goes to the Hinze stocking group and the North Pine dam boating money goes to the PRFMA, along with the SIP money.  SEQWater use the Boating permit money from Somerset and Wivenhoe on upkeep for the ramps and the Spit area.  They have purchased fingerlings themselves, but I don't know if they still do.  SWFSA do not get a cheque from SEQWater

Sorry Dale I misunderstood.
"  It's a bit weird, it's a bit like SEQW handing over the boating permit money to SWFSA".
I took that to mean that the monies went to your group.
Shame that it doesnt.
Maybe it time that the SIP fee is increased in line with everything else.
Cheers

I don't think it needs increasing.  We got over $100k for our two lakes, that's a hell of a lot of fingerlings, and we can't spend a cent of the SIP Money on anything other than fingerlings.  We run other fund raisers and rely on a sponsor (Tarong Energy) to pay for the running of the hatchery.  Obviously PRFMA and the Hinze group can spend the boating permit money on whatever they like.

Not quite, but certainly free to use it to run the club and the running expenses - Unfortunately they dont spend it on beer and dancing girls!
