Bellinger River

Here are a few pics of the Bellinger River

Bridge Street Bellingen

Downstream

Upstream

Heading towards Thora on waterfall way you eventually come across Gordonville Crossing

Downstream

Upstream

If you keep heading upstream you end up at Thora. This shot is looking downstream from the bridge

Head just round the corner and you get to Roses Park. This is a "Free" Overnight camp site. It has basic amenities and there is a box on the dunny for gold coin donations to cover upkeep.

Right next to the park is a pub and servo.

Almost straight across from the park / servo is Darkwood Road.

This takes you to Upper Thora, you end up going past the old saw mill etc. There is a launch spot about 2 k along the road but I never took any pics.

Further along you come across Joyces Bridge

Looking upstream from Joyces

Keep moseying along and you will get to Hobart Bridge. I would head upstream from here

Looking Upstream

You can keep on heading up along this road and will come to a few other bridges and launch spots.

Just a note these shots were taken with a bit of flow in the river so would guess the river is about a meter above where it normally runs.

Nice photos there, the top one of Lavenders Bridge in town is considered the normal tidal change from fresh to salt. Just up stream is what they call the Bat Island, in our younger days the town swimming pool and diving board was on the north side of the river. Foot bridge to the rainforest. Nowadays just the bloody bats which moved in the late 70's,

The photo of Joyce's bridge is very familiar as spent a lot of my youth fishing this area. A few good deep holes, used to be great for swimming just upstream of here. Have seen mullet here up to about 4-6lb and eels that are bigger that your arms. My grandfather used to love fishing this patch for Perch.

Great photo's it certainly is a spot worth exploring. In the old days it was a blow up airbed or surfmat and down the river and into Bellingen, then wait for Pa to knock off work and head home again.

Regards

Trev
