On wet days I........................
« on: October 09, 2010, 02:35:22 PM »
I found some spare time away from work for a small moment today, staring at the wet skies wishing I was on the dam and trying to inspire my thoughts at filling my lure boxes with something different to throw at Barra this season promted me to put this lure together.

Not very imaginative, but I'm hoping it'll do the job on a couple of unexpecting fish.

This squid skirt is rigged with a 3/8 oz TT jig head and a home made stinger from a 7/0 Mustad Hoodlum hook.

The lure can also be changed to different weighted jig heads when conditions present themselves or when you would like to troll them down deeper. I think they might be a one fish lure however if rigged with a sliding sinker with your leader attached to a hook similar to the one mentioned above that I used as a stinger you may get more use out of it.

Simple, how effective? I'll let you know!

Cheers Dave

Nice tube Dave. How did you attach the assist hook? Is that braid or gudebrod or dacron line you used?

Dacron Fitzy,

It's a bit of an overkill, ok, a lot, but it's what I could get my hands on at the time, 200lb dacron spliced, 400lb!!!

I used the stinger to pull me car out of the bog the other day.  ;D My leader will break well before it does.

To attach the hook to the dacron I used a series of interlocking half hitches, I found the knot on the net a while back and then used electrical heat shrink to keep it from coming undone. Then it was as easy as slipping the loop at the end of the dacron over the point of the stinger hook, creating a slip knot then placing the loop of that knot of the hook of the stinger hook and pulled tight.

Dave ;)

Thanks for the info mate. I'm a fan of using assist hooks on barra plastics, tho I've bought them to date. I quite like some that I got from river 2 sea as they're fairly still and hold out there pretty straight making them less likely to tangle.

I like the way you think, it might not work, but you never know 'til you give it a go. You're thinking outside the circle.  :thumbsup

I swam it in the pool this arvo and seems to swim ok.

It is also light enough to skim them across the surface.
