Hey mate I noticed that Johnny Mitchell who is one of the "Go To" guides at Awoonga has suspended charters out at Awoonga at the moment.  I assume this means that for his business, the bigger barra are being found in bigger numbers in the salt so that is where he takes his clients. Maybe like Mondy, the average fish size being encountered is around the 60cm mark at the moment which is still good fun.

This is only my opinion though so others might have a more informed view.

Cheers

I've heard the locals are catching plenty of fish and keeping it to themselves so they can enjoy parking closer to the water at the boat ramp.  Makes sense to me.

I think someone is pulling your leg, Dale.  The reports I have heard (from a number of locals) is that there is the odd fish being caught but nothing of any consistency or size.  Three fish in one session with the biggest being 70cm is the best result I've heard this year.  Last year was worse though!

Mind you, there is still a distinct lack of boats on the water at Awoonga ATM...

The ABT event next week should give us a clearer picture of whether or not there are barra around to be caught!

Cheers

Pete

I’m one of the locals, yep a few fish were caught in the ABT by a select few that knew what they were doing and I believe Scotty won the comp with a total 13 fish.  Well done Scotty. Average fish size for the ABT was 66cm,

I went out on the weekend to give the boat a much-needed run and managed one 64cm barra, so it’s a lot of work for a small fish.  Personally, I think there are better places to fish than Awoonga, the local water ways are a much better option if you know what you are doing, and I don’t know what I’m doing. However, on the bright side there was plenty of parking at the dam.
