Title: PFD regulations for QLD impoundments
Post by: warren63 on December 29, 2011, 06:12:33 AM
Ok in my haste to launch my kayak at Hinze Dam the other morning i was already out and about before i realised i'd left my pfd in the car. Tsk tsk first time ive ever done that, shame the fish werent as eager. Back in my NSW days i knew it was mandatory to wear a pfd on any impoundment or such. Ive done a quick google search which hasnt turned up anything for QLD regulations. Can anyone please shed some light on this one.

Warren a PFD is not a requirement by law on a kayak in Qld, except when required by the local rules of any event, the Wivenhoe Kayak Convention being a case in point.

Should also mention as long as your not on North Pine dam, as the local stocking group that issues the permits requires a PFD be worn on kayaks.

The beauty of it in Qld is because the jackets are no required on the yak, I dont have to carry the evidence of servicing with me!

I always wear my PFD on the yak as well. Gives me piece of mind. I'm a strong swimmer, but only in the down direction  ;D
