Title: AWOONGA FINGERLINGS 2011 BUT THERES MORE
Post by: k.hutchby on January 09, 2011, 06:31:37 PM
hi guys
the fingerling stocking for lake awoonga began in the early hours of yesterday morning and continued to this morning.  a total of 202,000 were released into the dam, at an average size of 70mm, amassing to a total weight of 346kg of fingerlings.  a further date will be made for the remainder 100,000 fingerlings to be release (as soon as we get all staff on hand). a huge thanks to the following people for assisting: jason wilhelm, trev (awoonga), john mitchell and earl (bishop) for their assistance.  you guys will be on tv tomorrow night (and for other to witness).  i will be completing the camera shoots tonight in the hatchery, and i can arrange a copy for the members who attended for their personal records.  again massive thanks guys.  sorry about the camera's guys but i am in the process of sticking it up the doom and gloomers.

p.s monduran has completed their stocking as well with 124,000 fish stocked at the same size in the past 3 weeks.  nice one guys.

cheers kurt

Thanks to Kurt and staff at the Gladstone hatchery the new arrivals were dispersed to all corners of Awoonga with the help of Johnny & Katie, Trev, Jason and myself.

Go forth and grow you good things!

Once again thanks Kurt it was a pleasure to help.

Thanks for the invite Kurt. Katie and myself enjoyed the experience again; she described the feeling of releasing the fish as 'electric', and the event as 'historic'. ( 14yrs and still cranking)
Poking up a far reached back arm and releasing them amongst a mass of tiny food fish feels like fertilising the lawn before a storm. There has been a bloody good lot of fish placed in that lake in the last 10 months. A silent fishery shall go boom- existing fish plus a mob of smaller barra on the prowl will keep all anglers on the hop.
Many Thanks.
Johnny Mitchell

yeah thanks boys for helping.  john thanks for coming out, there is another load coming up its backside, a lot bigger this time.  good to see the people that made it, and calls from the people who couldnt.  boynedale next time, we will pack them out the back (100,000) next time.

yep the girl is silent, but its ticking as we speak.  give it a couple of weeks, and i will eat my words if it doesnt go off.

cheers

Well done guys and gals, thanks for sharing.

Uncertain weather predictions down here has prevented a lot of us to head north to lend a hand, so thank you for putting in the hard work, especially Kurt,  :thanks. We had plans spending a couple of weeks up there between Mondy and Awoonga over the Xmas break.

Good to see some blue skies up there.

Well isn't that fantastic, with all the doom and gloom of a few lost fish over the wall, then hundreds of thousands of fingerlings released into the dam. It is great work from the hatchery, hopefully some of the voices might reconsider their knocking now.

All thinking anglers recognise the work involved and the future is secure with this type of input from the Hatchery.

Thank you

Regards

Trev
