Title: Escape from the cabin
Post by: takrat on March 10, 2013, 08:25:34 PM
Just when cabin fever was becoming unbearable a mate rang up this arfternoon enquiring about some Bass fishing and would I be interested. I grabbed the gear so quick I nearly pulled a muscle and was out the door at the speed of light. (Well, not quite.) He's been down to this place the day before and got 20 Bass out of very brown water. Not caring about the water colour I got to his place tossed his canoe on the roof and ducked around to the creek a few km from his home. Launched and in the water we started casting at a cane drain outlet and got hit on the first two casts. "This is gonna be great" I'm musing to myself. The mozzies were really bad but Deet applied liberally fixed that. We went further down the creek after pulling about 8 fish off the cane drain and picked up a few more. There were a lot of missed strikes further down the creek which led us to believe that the bass were not feeding but the hits were "get away" strikes. We went back up the creek and got a few more then called it a day by about 5.30. The mozzies were really bad, apparently I had something like 150 of them on my back all queuing up for a drink of Deet. We ended up being on the water for about 2 hours and came away with 14 fish. Nothing massive but all good fun. Lure of the day for me was a Bill Norman Shallow crank.
