The Scotty Anchor lock system is now available in Australia
This anchor lock system is a standard issue with some Old Town Canoes. Coming with a water proof flush mount, this system offers easy stow and deploy of an anchor from a distance eg operated from the cockpit of a kayak when mounted on the bow.
Suitable for use on canoes, kayaks and smaller boats and can handle variable rope diameters.
Comes with flush mount which is waterproof (water can't run through the hole when anchor lock is not inserted)
Retail Price is $99 and can be purchased from most kayak/canoe stores, tackle shops or chandlers in Australia.

That sure looks like a refinement from my old feed the rope through the carry handle technique. Amazing how abrasive that rope can be on plastic.

I first saw these back in April while fishing with StevenM and Fitzy . Fitzy that day was in an Oldtown Pack Angler canoe which comes with a Scotty Anchor lock as standard . I was very impressed with the ease of dropping and retrieving the anchor , and how easy the system is to remove from the canoe.
Steve hassled a SEqld canoe/kayak shop who eventually was able to import a couple of these suckers for us to use . I recieved mine in August and haven't looked back.

Unfortunately the Tarpon100 does not have a flat surface on the bow , but three screws still does the job.

Been thinking about installing another anchor lock on the stern to give me the option of pointing downstream aswell.

Here's My set up on my Tarpon 100....
I have to say the Anchor lock is brilliant and it is ideal for a small kayak where a full blown anchor trolley may not be suitable.
I installed the Scotty Flush Mount

I made a rope winder out of some cutting board, I am using 4 mm rope, the Anchor Lock will take rope up to 12mm in thickness. I am using a 2kg Dumb Bell to hold the kayak in position.

On land shot, but on water any length of rope can be layed onto the bottom of the waterway.

Its a simple system that works efficiently, lift the rope high so that the locking leg becomes disengaged, let the rope and anchor free.

Then drop the rope to allow the leg to come down and lock the rope in position, the rope will not move forward or back when locked, just brilliant.

I used mine for the first time yesterday, holding in current to cast to structure is now easily done.
For sure I will be adding a flush mount to the stern of the kayak so I can anchor from either end to suit my fishing needs....

I have installed a receiver on the stern and can say its a piece of oie to use.
As you dont need to see what you are doing to deploy. Just lift your arm or drop it.
Am thinking of trying to do a mod on one of those retractable dog leash things as my rope holder.

Thinking along the same lines....already have a dog lead, now to install it. :?)

What a great idea just what I need for the Australis Bass 8) might have to see what I can knock up in the shed. Thanks for sharing the tips guys.Pat.

Decided to whack the bigger mount I have for my anchor lock onto my punt to see how it goes. I'll try it out this arvo. I already had a piece of cutting board cut out for a flush mount so I have used that as some backing for extra strength.
I have a cut down anchor for it, about half the size of a normal one and I also have a hunk of lead that StevenM gave me that weighs 4kgs that I am going to try as well. Not sure how well that would work in the current though on a muddy bottom.
