Waterways Speed Limits - Qld
« on: January 06, 2013, 08:36:26 PM »
This was raised in another topic and deserves it's own topic for easy reference.

Attached is the current speed limit for Queensland waterways.

* Note that there is a 40 knot (46 miles/hour or 75 kilometers/hour) max on all non-tidal waters with a few exceptions.
These are:
(a) the waters of Moogerah Dam at Aratula
(b) the waters of Perserverance Dam
(c) the waters of the Bjelke Peterson Dam
(d) the waters locally known as Sandy Hook Reach approximately between Branyan and Tyson Crossing on the Burnett River
(e) the waters upstream of the Barrage on the Fitzroy River
(f) the waters of Peter Faust Dam
(g) the waters of Ross River and Ross Dam at Townsville
(h) the waters of Tinaroo Dam in the Atherton Tableland (unless otherwise prescribed)
(i) the waters of Trinity Inlet in front of the Esplanade at Cairns
(j) the waters of Marian Weir
(k) the waters of Plantation Creek known as Hutchings Lagoon
(l) the waters in Kinchant Dam at Mackay
(m) the waters of Lake Awoonga at Gladstone
(n) the waters of Lake Maraboon at Emerald
(o) the waters of Somerset Dam, Brisbane
(p) the waters of Bundoora Dam, Middlemount

This, without a doubt should be noted for fast boats & fishing comp / tournament organisers on all other lakes, & non-tidal rivers.

Also note that there is no mention of speed limits on Lake Cressbrook (8 knots) or Lake Lenthall (6 knots), which would make them unenforceable by state authorities (Boating & Fisheries Patrol) as these are not a state govt restiction, more likely a condition of entry by the dam owners.

What they are doing at Noosa is worrying, these speed limits that change depending on holiday seasons.

It is interesting Lenthalls not being listed, I wonder if it is classed as a private waterway, as Wide Bay water is basically a Council owned  company, and thats why its not listed?
