Totally agree.  I'm not a fan of how alotof people pose with bass and not supporting them.  Especially bigger bass.  I know  they are different but just think hanging onto them by the jaw  especially kinking it back can't be that great.

I really hope Qld B&F see that post and make very good example of that clown. The really stupid bit is there quoting the regulation but still saying what a hero the guy is. It is not the first time that particular forum has been under the spot light for doing the exact same thing and I think a member on here tried to nicely point out what the op had done wrong and what the reg's were, and the Mods on that forum threaten to pull his post because they claimed it was off topic.

Makes me sick to my stomach to see those type of photo's.

Which forum ? don't they have a rule about posting illegal fishing most do.

Its not the forum as Im a member and I stand by them they are a great bunch of people and its not about illegal fishing as i dont think the Cod was targeted its about protecting a native fish that facing an up hill battle surviving in the wild, so if you  catch one as a by catch then enjoy the moment release it quick and dont encourage the boof heads by posting photos, thats all im saying
I live a stones throw from the Mary River and its catchment and I see this all the time from locals, maybe its an Ego thing for some people
As I said in my first post maybe Im getting old and cranky

Spawning season has already begun first fish in the hatchery spawned last Wednesday/ Thursday.
One of the nesting sites in the catchment that is monitored and closely guarded by the landowner had a male on it on last Saturday. Lip gripping and taking a Cod to the bank putting it on the mat and holding for a photo will most likely cause a male to abandon the nest if it is guarding, or a female if close to spawning reabsorb her eggs and not spawn. NSW has a total closure to protect Eastern Cod and a closed season to protect Murray Cod in spawning season. But meanwhile in QLD.................we have an ever increasing amount of fishing effort in MRC habitat which with the change in the Bass regs has increased considerably this season and no closed season at all for Murray Cod with the exception of the border Rivers.

I found that being a f#%ktard is often only curable by death; in that they wont change until they die.  :walkplank

Maybe it's just poor genetics or small penis syndrome that drives people to target protected fish.

Understand the sentiments above having not seen the picture in question. Was fortunate to catch this nice Mary River Cod in Somerset a season or two ago, was a surprise catch not really a by catch, fish was quickly landed in an environet, quick pic taken supporting the weight of the fish then released off the side of the boat in a shower of spray.

Yep, I wanted a pic of the fish, it was my first Mary River Cod be it a stocked impoundment fish or not and all completed without overly stressing the fish - sure, I could have released it in the water and foregone the pic but didn't and probably wouldn't do any different again - it's a wonderful memory for me of a top days fishing with a mate in the pouring rain  ;D

Yes, I'm getting old, bitter and twisted as well, but do believe there is a sensible middle ground.

Cheers

Rob

That's a nice fish Rob.  The fish in Somerset are not protected, and I would say that most that are caught up there are kept.  There's nothing wrong with what you did.
With regard to the guy originally posted about, he now realises that he did the wrong the thing, and I hope that he doesn't start targeting them where he shouldn't.

A quick question...

Very soon there will be any access point/boat ramp in the top of Somerset Dam, some of the locals are thinking about taking there boats over there when it opens. Where is the cut off between Somerset Dam and the Stanley River up there and is it signed ? I can see a few people may suddenly fall fowl of the law  :Hunting)

Cheers
