Title: Boat fire Somerset today
Post by: Binder on April 23, 2011, 03:41:48 PM
Just saw a ski boat caught fire on somerset this morning, burning a family of 5.

This sort of fire is often from fumes when fueling, unusual otherwise. Hope all recover.

Will be on Channel 7 Brisbane news at 6pm apparently.

What's the bet it was a four stroke donk with a fuel leak?

V8 inboard as usual, the news is harping on about "HIGH OCTANE" fuel....who the hell can afford 98octane fuel these days ???? I sure as hell cant, and I certainly wouldn't be turning it into noise with a ski boat if I could afford it.

Could have been anything that set if off.  I don't know that 98 blows up any harder than E10 when the tank goes up, but the news would need to try to inflate the spectacular anyways.  Let's hope for a quick recovery for the people on board.

Inboard petrol engines are always going to be a fire hazard. You have to make sure the blower is working at all times, and keep up the maintenance, no fuel lying in the bilge etc. It should happen far more regularly than it does?
Hope it doesnt happen to you
