Title: Kurwongbah Tips?
Post by: Muzfox on October 03, 2014, 09:03:55 AM
Looking to hit this dam over the weekend now it's open to yakkers. Been some reports of great fishing there. Keen to go get some :)

Never been there before, does anyone have any tips on water depth, areas to try, and does fly work there at all? I've read trolling hardbodies is certainly getting results and I will give that a go, but always keen to chuck some fluff and see what results :)

Trolling hard bodies worked for me, but you will pick up weed if you stray too close to the edges. I can't see why chuckin some fluff close to the weed wouldn't work as well. You may also pick up a Toga this way if you're lucky.

Wash your mouth out, fly is the only way to go. Cast to the weed edge, wait for different times (5,10,15 sec etc) for getting the fly to the right depth, short sharp strips with lots of pauses and you are bound to clean up. A mate caught a 45cm on fly there last weekend.

Have fished Lake Kurwongbah 4 times since it was opened up & I can say that trolling hard bodied deep divers at a dead slow paddle certainly yields a lot of Bass...my personal best to date was 19 Bass last saturday morning. the morning session seems to work best...but that said, it is nothing to see between 20 & 30 kayak fisho's on the lake at any one time.
Also don't be afraid to use "Spinnerbaits" around the weed bed edges...they have proven to be very productive.
Hope this helps.    :youbeauty
