Title: Wivenhoe Spillway / Atkinson's Crossing
Post by: Sweetwater on June 20, 2013, 09:08:15 AM
The Wivenhoe Spillway Common / Atkinson's Crossing is to be reopened today. This area suffered extensive damage in the floods if 2011 and it was unknown if this popular location would ever have funding for fixing the damage to make it safe for public access.

Minister Mark McCardle will be there to open this area today & announce the SEQWater recreation review.

We used to catch some awesome fish below the gauging weir.  When it was legal of course.

Dale, I caught my first bass about where that spot is. Using a shrimp while waiting for the tank to fill on the water truck I was driving on site back a good while ;)
That gauging weir was the only thing stopping me reaching the dam wall proper with my old Coleman Crawdad...the 6hp Evinrude just wouldn't get us up it  ::)

Good to see access has been restored and I note the river course has changed since the floods.
