Kudos to the Rangers!
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:50:51 PM »
Hi all,

Just wanted to give a shout out to the SEQ Water ranger I was privileged enough to speak with this afternoon.  My enquiry related to the need for a fish rescue at Location X.  The Ranger was more than accommodating and showed great concern for the welfare of the fish.  I won't name the location for obvious reasons, but there were some Awesome looking specimens 30-50cm (approx) that were well worth the rescue swimming amongst a cess pool of dying/dead fish.  My only hope is that something can be done for these fish also the 1000's of what I feel were fingerlings (could be wrong)swimming in the same pool.

Thanks to the Ranger for his concern, that is not to say they aren't all of the same thinking though.

 :thanks

Here is a pic of one of the fish seen.  Its on the left edge of the photo about 1/2 way up!  I have photoshopped the pic for the purpose of hilighting the fish.  The water is stained and green.

Cheers

Whilst not easy to make out in the pic, to the right of the stick you can see a plethora of what I suspect to be fingerlings.  However I could be wrong!

Update:

I was contacted by the Ranger this afternoon to inform me that he was currently onsite inspecting the situation.  He informed myself that the area was outside his jurisdiction however he was awaiting the arrival of Environmental Rep. from the Council.  Further to that he investigated other areas known to get landlocked with no further reports of stranded fish.  I will advise if I hear any more.

Thanks again to the Ranger!!

Update!

Well it seems the small amount of rain that occured Wednesday/Thursday has allowed the lake above to spill!!  A good flow was noted today which hopefully flushed out any stragglers!!  Just hope they survive the rapids!!  Should see the river stocks in the local area to flourish fingers crossed!

Regards
Colin
