Title: Bring on the Cicadas
Post by: 4weightfanatic on October 19, 2011, 06:13:17 AM
Had a night fish last testing out a Kokoda Bat cicada lure getting my best wild bass to date. I got a smaller fish earlier in the evening right at the bank with about 4 feet of leader out the tip which just goes to show leaving the lure in till the last minute can produce - a little testing on the heart though !!!! I then got a fish I estimate to be around 38 cm which really inhaled the cicada. Can't wait till the real things start singing - Bring on the Cicadas. Pat

They are a good lure Pat, & at a reasonable price. I have recently purchased one of the soft shelled variety, but have not had a chance to test it yet.

Cheers Andrew

Cicadas, the Bass fisherman's symphony. Geez that fish didn't miss that lure. Those lures look good, I rate the Timeco Soft shells but at 4 grams you have to be on pretty light gear to cast them, I do anyway, and in tiger country in a yak that can get expensive.

Nice pics, I'll be trying the surface tomorrow night on light gear. I nailed them a lot last month and already getting the itch  ::)

Cheers, Mick.

Had a quick after tea session last night and got the most unusual surface take so far on the Bat lure. The lure (as those that use it know) makes quite a subtle bloop and whilst it was at rest there was a bloop very similar to the lure. Being pretty dark I wasn't sure whether it came from my lure or a distant boof so went to bloop the lure again and felt weight. Thinking I'd had some weed on the lure I raised the rod and felt quite a bit of weight that was slowly moving. Hold on is this a fish ? A couple of cranks of the spin reel and it finally woke up by then it was bankside and slid up over the weeds. No surface smash and run just a subtle sip like a trout on a mayfly. The fish measured 39 cm and have a look at the position of the lure. These guys never cease to amaze me. PAT
