Pre Christmas fish
« on: January 13, 2014, 02:30:57 PM »
This is a fairly belated report, but I had to go down to Sydney over Christmas so I jammed in as much Bass fishing as I could before I went. MY mate Phil and I went back up this little back water we had fished before with good results and for a while were a bit mystified why we didn't get much initially. However just on last light things changed fairly dramatically and I got slammed hard to the point that I thought I'd been taken under a log. I screwed the drag up on my PX68 and got busy putting some solid work on getting this animal out.
I was thinking that this thing must be massive but when it surfaced after a good struggle it turned out to be just a nice chunky 40cm Bass. It got me thinking, you can never take these fish too cheaply, and I'm convinced that the more effort you take to get into more remote country, the better fish you will get. I won't go less than 10lb braid for this sort of work and no less than 12lb for the leader. Bass in timber are most definitely to be respected.

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important
