Aussie Basser do you think the number of gar has decreased since cressbrook filled? I use to see heaps but i havn seen as many of late and wonder if you think that also. Was an unreal amount before the floods. I dont think they made much of a dent in the shrimp population as i know people getting heaps of shrimp before it filled. I think the loss of weed beds is more to blame for shrimp loss.

The introduction of gar into cressbrook saw the disappearance of shrimp to the extent that live bait fishermen ignored th law and caught shrimp in perserverene for use in cressbrook   I'd hate to see gar turn in to the cane toad of the water
They are a pain to fly fishermen
As far as I know its only an SEQ water rule you cant move shrimp, not law,  you can legally use them across all locations they are found in despite where sourced.

As for cane toads of the water, that would be barred grunter and spangled perch, bait stealing mongrels they are! When it comes to bait stealing Gar are only an issue for Tilapia fishermen  ;D

Binder, there is a no shrimping rule at perserverance that aussiebasser is talking about i think. It was brought in years ago there by the council. Like ya said shrimp can be caught anywhere an used im pretty sure. Thats why you can still buy them in shops unlike yabbies.

I haven't bOthered fishing cressbrook since the rangers decided to try to discourage visitors by bringing in One law for visitors and one rule for locals  The shrimping rules at perserverene may have changed

Yer agree with you in some ways aussie but im a local and i can tell ya it doesn matter who ya are. Treated the same. Years ago it was called the no no dam for a reason hey. I dont fish there stuff all anymore. I prefer to drive right past the front gate on my way to somerset. Rule on shrimping still applys at persy.
