TRout fishing
« on: June 18, 2012, 08:25:29 PM »
I'm thinking about having a go at some trout in the not too distant future and thought the best place to begin would be down near the New England area. Anyone got any idea of decent locations? I'm told there's good fishing down around the Styx River near Moffatt Falls.

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

Can't really help JD.  :Nothing) I've not caught many troots, always seems too bloody cold where they be. Be interested in seeing other replies, wouldn't mind trying to get one on the fly rod.

Anywhere around the Ebor area is well worth a look , currently it's closed season which reopens on the October long weekend .

Yeh pete it's still a good time to scope out some new country tho. I agree with 2dogs it's bloody cold where they be anyhow. I've had a bit of a look around the Ebor area, nice streams there. I haven't mastered fly fishing, can't multi task so one thing at a time. I'll be chasing them on light spin gear and small minnows.

That's it John , great time to look about and explore new areas , don't worry too much you have plenty of time to master the fly , once you try and find success , you will never look back . From memory the gwydir below copeton used to hold some reasonable Trout , well worth a look also , good luck with it

Thanks Pete,
There used to be a property open to the public out that way, I fished it once but the trees were a problem. It also depends a bit on whethe and how much water is being released from the dam I think.

You really have to wonder why there is a closed season for what is essentially a feral specie.  I'll never understand those Mexicans.

Dale

a closed season is essential on Trout even if you view them as being feral, in which they are not
what is really a joke in NSW waters is the so called close of season concerning not only Murray cod but also Bass , stops people eating them ,thats it in most cases, these disturbed Native fish have problems spawing after C/R in the close , same old lame excuse comes out , they were by catch
