Dirty water
« on: February 28, 2013, 03:59:20 PM »
G'Day crew,
After the last few days over west of Tenterfield my best advice is to think twice for the moment. The Dumaresq is going hard after a bit more rain earlier this week and the Mole is in a similar situation. The Severn in the lower end of Sundown NP is reasonably clean but tannin brown. Glen Lyon Dam is at 75% and fishing OK mainly for bait but that seems to change on a daily basis. Tenterfield Creek is also pretty grubby and has plenty of flow.
Cheers
JD

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

John, I can vouch for that - spent 3 days from Monday on the Mole and the river level actually rose a foot or so, and  as for coloured water, well the only colour was brown... Needless  to say no success  at all.

Heading up to Stanthorpe to catch up with my parents, so might try down around Ballandean. So need to have a fish.

Way too much water up here as well. Had a nice feed at the Ballandean Tavern. Saw photo evidence of a nice 105cm Cod that was caught very close to Stanthorpe only two weeks ago.
The cod was released.
Cheers Andrew

Yes boys, it's pretty dire at the moment. I'm back to casting lures at a bucket just to stay in form. I'll be a machine by the time the weather clears and the streams get back to normal. As an aside, my regular fishing mate who lives on acreage had a neighbor call him and say the the bass had come up a flooded creek that had backed up from the local river. The Bass were keeping him awake chopping on the surface half the night. I've made a mental note to get down there next time regardless of the hour! Having a look up that creek as the river goes down is on the agenda too.

Must be getting higher in my area..... 11:00pm and just recieved a warning SMS about immenent flooding of lower Lockyer Creek and to consider evacuation.
River is awful high from dam releases, if there's a peak coming down an already flooded Lockyer Creek, the river is only going to get higher.

Try to look on the bright side. These few years of really wet weather should produce a decade or more of great fishing in the years to come.

Good onya Brett, always the optimist! Hope to see you up there later, maybe May. Fitzy, that rain up there was nuts! We came down through Nerang yesterday and could hardly see the road.
