Wivenhoe fishing ok for anyone?
« on: March 13, 2011, 05:04:01 PM »
So being new to the fresh/sweet water I guess I am doing it wrong or have just been trying in the wrong places or at the wrong times. I have fished BigW a few times now but all I have been able to get is catfish and today an extra special surprise a koopa troopa while trolling..

So the question begs has anyone caught anything more interesting in Wivenhoe in the last few weeks? If you have, do you have any tips :-).

I have tried all around logans, trolled from logans to platypus cliffs and further.. Stopping to cast at what I though looked fishy. I've been using all sorts of lures except for spinnerbaits and poppers. Still all I get is catties. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone who knows what they are doing is going up there in the next few weeks I'd be keen to tag along.

Catfish city in summer. Try trolling faster with lures that dont rattle.

Until all that silt starts to settle it's going to be a new learning curve I reckon. :o
I'm itching to get back out there in another month or so to have a good look around.Driving past today I was still shocked at how muddy it looked.
Reckon it'll be quite awhile before normalcy returns.  ???

Cheers.

Join the crew Captain Morgan, will be a while before we can fish it with any confidence. In the mean time all we can do is explore further afield.
I am looking foward to the river clearing up so we can get into some escapees.

Cheers Andrew

Cheers for your responces, I might try somewhere else over the next few weeks then and let it settle a bit more.

Over the last two weeks it has got about another 150-200mm of visibility from my reckoning. Each time I went I dipped the paddle tip in to see how far I could see it through the water. So from about 400mm to now at 600mm.

Looking at the silt down stream, I can just imagin the level of silt settling on the bottom. Maybe not enough to effect capacity measurably but maybe would it kill off grass beds?

Anyhow might try Hinze next week, I liked the look of your last effort there Estuary Girl.
