Wivenhoe
« on: September 18, 2010, 08:38:31 PM »
Well after dropping my son at the airport and watching him fly off to Sunny Melbourne for the school holidays, did I say Sunny Ha Ha I headed for Wivenhoe with an expected arrival around 10.30Am.
The weather report said light winds with a chance of rain, don't mind getting wet but the wind can be a pain.
When I arrived the lake look great with a wind around 10kmh from the West so was on my back for the paddle to the spot I had planned to go. Decided to troll the whole way  and wasn't far from the area when one of the rods went off.
I quickly wound the other rod in while still moving forward then began the fight with what felt like a good fish.
When I finally had the lure in close I saw a good sized Bass and that is when the adrenalin start to run as this was the biggest Bass I had had on my line and thoughts of loosing it at the side of the Yak entered my head.
I kept my cool and had it in the net with a sign of relief and that is when I relized all the stories about the huge Bass in Wivenhoe and all the tips people had given finally all came together. Thanks Fitzy and Sel  ;D
It came in at 52cm from nose to tail and had a huge belly.
This is obviously my biggest Bass and so happy it came from Wivenhoe, also happy to say that after a fair few photos she was set free for another happy angler to catch or me again she reaches 60cm  ::) not to much to ask....
Went out again today and caught two more Bass 34cm and 32cm really happy that I am getting my act together Oh and also my fair share of Cattys >:(

Must also say Thanks to All that where keen to share their tips and location last weekend, it all helps, that includes you Dodge.

Cheers Brett

Nice One Brett...

Any Bass is a good catch but when it's over 50 even better, well done 8)

So did the Jonesy lures work or not?

Cheers

Hi Sel,

It certainly did, caught one on the jonesy in the brown colour and one on the same lure as yesterday in the purple.
Also very happy with the action..... ;D

Did have a huge Catty bend the rear treble but all good, bent back with the leatherman and ready to go again.

Thanks heaps for that...

Brett

Nice one buddy

seeing these buggers gets me in two minds. Still two weeks till I get another fish in, want to hit the rivers with surface but man I want to get out and play with the big girls as well.

Recon the surface may win but.

Know what you mean Steve but did enjoy the 50 plus and was out alone and after a while it gets real while quite then when that reel screams it makes it all worth it.
Mind you watching a surface lure get hit is a real buzz as well.

Good luck. Brett ;D
