Last chance to have your say on proposed changes to Queensland’s stocked impoundment permit scheme

Public consultation on proposed changes to Queensland’s Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIPS) will close next week at 5pm, 27 January 2015.

Fisheries Queensland consultation manager Tony Ham said all fishers, stocking groups and community members were urged to provide their feedback on the proposed changes.

"All fishers, stocking groups and community members are encouraged to log on and provide their feedback before the closing date," Mr Ham said.

"SIPS provides Queensland anglers with a sustainable freshwater fishing option.

"Anglers pay for a permit to fish at any of the 32 stocked impoundments on the scheme, with funds raised from permit sales used to purchase fingerlings and restock the dams with a range of iconic native freshwater species.

"The scheme also provides a range of economic, environmental and recreational benefits for the surrounding local communities.

Mr Ham said the proposed changes aimed to further expand the successful SIPS scheme.

"The proposed changes will allow the expansion of SIPS across the state and provide vital resources to allow our stock fisheries to grow and prosper," he said.

"The Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) proposes changes to permit conditions and impoundment additions to the scheme which were developed in consultation with key stakeholders.

"It’s important the public also have their say so we can take the broad range of community interests into consideration when making our final decision."
