Fishing Australia on rod angles
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:18:34 AM »
Watched ol' mate Rob somethingorotherous yesterday, he did a piece on mulloway off the rocks.  The rocks however were razor sharp and the water super shallow, looked like it was just south of Batemans Bay but good easily be wrong, no mention or obvious landmarks. The guest angler was fishing soft plastics in and around the small crevices probably in what looked to be a couple of metres of water, waves and weed.

The fella hooked a few fish too but got blown away every time on what was obviously nice fish.  It was interesting to see the guy go about his trade, particularly how he used the rod and the reel to apply the hurt.  Low rod angles whenever possible with the fish unloading straight off the reel.  He just about kept one hand on the drag adjustment altering the pressure through the reel.  The rod would come up occasionally to clear an obstruction but only for that.

Working the plastic got the same amount of attention to detail, the rod would come high a bit but mostly sat in the ready/gone position

In the end he got smoked all the time though one did get into the shore break but lost it to weed.  Non the less it was a great watch if you pulled Rob out of the equation.

There's a bloke who enjoys his fishing. Who's the more excitable Rob or the bloke from I Fish? you don't want those two in the same boat
