Ben's Falls retreat

Just wondering if anyone has fished this place. As far as I can tell there is no camping but you have the use of a couple of cabins. The website says they are $150 per night, or $100 per night mid week. Sounds OK to me.

fishing is not essential to life, it's much more important

Hi John,

We spent a few nights there last year - great place with some very potential water though the accommodation was a little rough - we had our wives with us - it is mainly set up for blokes !! We stayed in the up stream hut but I think the lower setup might have been better fishing wise.  Price from memory was about $100 pn.  They have an interesting part time ' restaurant' built over looking the boulder strewn river - the urinal is unique !!!!!
I would go back but without my wife.
Richard.

Sounds Ok to me Richard, I normally camp anyway. It would be a change to have a solid roof for a change. Did you get any fish?

It was this time of year  - wet as well, and cold - looked so much better than what we achieved - only 1 fish. The river was also down but some impressive photos of nice cod.
Getting to the site was a bit of a mission - they met us and showed us the way . The lower section , towards Kwiambal, to me looked the less fished  though we did not spend much time there.  Lots of deer on the place .
Good luck.

takrat,

A mate and I stayed at this place a couple of years back in the mid-August and stayed in the Cod Cabin.  Took the kayak.  Was a very peaceful spot.  We had a very relaxing time of it.  Stayed for 3 days.  The kayak was not really needed.  The best approach was to walk the river casting the pools.  Mate got a nice mid-70s cod and spinnerbait.  Lots of feral goats around the property - good meat source :-)

The cabin was a good setup for blokes and had everything you would need.  We just took our beer and food.  Need a 4WD to get to the cabins though.  The cabin are at opposite ends of the property - so you never come in contact with others.  Top place for a boys getaway.  Though took about 5 hours from Brissy.

Cheers, Pete

Thanks Pete,
I like the idea of walking the gorge country for Cod. The thing is that I can catch good Cod closer to home and don't have to pay for a cabin, as nice as it sounds. I may have a line on some private land over on the Gwydir that sounds promising.

I have also stayed there. Next trip I will stay in the pub and access the water from the road bridges.  Plenty of fishable water in the region. Just need to wear comfy shoes for hiking and avoid snakes
