After the rain .. a short session at the local
« on: September 26, 2010, 11:32:41 PM »
Hi folks,
We have had some serious rain here in the last month, 3 times the monthly average.
So i thought I would check out our local dam to see what might happen.
I chose the upper reaches because it was quiet and still, some fresh cover and it was generally overcast.
The place was picture perfect with a lot of lilly cover.
It was quite dark at first so I put on a cicada lure to test for surface action. No interest.
After a few sinking lures and some spinners I had to concede that the weed was too much, so with all the lilies there I put on my surface hopping frog.
At least i had some fun with hopping my frog from pad to pad.
I thought I saw some interest but it was the local lizards who actually jumped at my frog.
Anyway I saw no action today but it was really nice to be fishing at least.

We have here the upper reaches of Storm King dam where i fished
Then the headwaters as it begins on my place
This is the very beginning of a dam

Cheers,
Pam

Nice pics Pam. Have you fish over the other side of town on the Broadwater? A nice creek over there that looks pretty fishy.

fitz..

Nice Pam, my Pam's been at me to take her to Storm King for a fish.  I may just do that now you've shown how good it looks with all the water.  Thanks.

Thankyou everyone, I just need to coax some gnarly old fish out of those weeds.  ::) There are some big and wise old cod in there.

Quart pot creek through the centre of town seems to produce for some anglers; at the moment though, it is running a banker and has flooded all crossings but the main bridge through town.

I saw a pic in the local rag of the dam overflowing a few weeks ago and I focussed immediately on a sole fish fighting to keep from going over.

I will try to retrieve and copy that pic ( if I can ? ) it is quite unique.
