Title: surface bremer 67cm surprise!
Post by: wesfish on April 24, 2012, 12:15:25 AM
well what a great short session i just had chasing bass on surface down the bremer river  :)) first cast of a sammy in white and boof zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz a bloody catty about 55cm  :-[ i fire another cast and the water errupted and again some good runs but up pops another catty around the same size  :'( all though fun i was really after a 50plus bass, i observed some crazy bow waves and mullet scattering every where, these things hitting them were decent size around 60-70cm, so i change over to a subsurface jionted hard body lure, first cast and the bow waves charged at my lure on the surface, a slow roll and bang bang nothing.  ??? they were solid hits and i knew instantly what i was looking at  :o so i fire another cast and this time water goes every where as the lure makes impact with the water zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz jump big air and tail dance across the glassed out water  :OMG its its exactly what i thought lol i will let the pic do the talking  :thanks

Threadies up the Bremer River...who would have thunk it?  :GoodPost)

Great stuff Wes!!!!  :youbeauty

The old man used to tell me about catching the paddle steamer from Redbank up to Ipswich when he was younger. Lamented often about the clear water and the schools of fish he would see right up into the town stretch in Ipswich.

I caught a Mangrove Jack off the rock bar behind the West End footy club at East Ipswich years ago and mud crabs are a common capture for locals, so there's no reason there can't be more fish up there than we know about or expect. I think the goal posts just got moved....anyone want to up the anti on Wes' capture? A barra would do the trick....

Well there have been a few rumours. Barra have been landed in the Coomerra,Nerang and Logan rivers plus Tingalpa Creek in the past, its not out of the question.

Awesome stuff Wes !  :Clap)

I met up with Wes for a night time surface fish at Riverlink tonight. Caught my first ever Thready . Dunno what size it went, Wes was on a KFC run at the time and had the measuring device with him. I'm still chasing a Riverlink Bremer Bogan Bass , maybe next time.

Cheers,
Dave.

Nice fishing for the Bremer river Wes, and WOW that is a Thready monster in the pic!  I've never fished the Bremer but whenever I drive over it all I think of is Bully's!

I used a Sebile Stick Shadd. http://www.sebile.com.au/Sebile_Products/Stick_Shadd_90_SU.html (http://www.sebile.com.au/Sebile_Products/Stick_Shadd_90_SU.html)

At 30bucks a piece , they have been sitting in my tackle box for nearly 12 months because I have been too scared to lose one. I'll have to tell Tre at Charletons that I finally used them and they worked. :)

Cheers,
Dave.

this just looks like to much fun not to have a go, so is there somewhere to fish off the bank on the riverlink side or the other side? im going to head down one evening after work this week and give it a go

The strongest light pools on the water are :

The immediate area upstream from the Trumpy bridge , good bank access below the Goodlife gym.

The upstream bank beside the rail/walkway bridge, the city side has Wes's track worn in the grass. But the riverlink side would be ok too, just that no-one has blazed a trail through the grass there yet.

The Albion street bridge accross the Bremer in Brassall is well lit up too. Casting platforms are on the Brassall side. The fish under the bridge are well versed in relieving you of your lures.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Dave.
