Title: Whitsunday Barra
Post by: yakfly on October 26, 2013, 01:19:08 PM
Good mates Tom and Chris invited me up to my old stamping ground in CQ for a days fishing at the start of our R&R from over west.
Fished a small land locked lagoon on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning for an overall tally of around 30 Barra between 3 of us,mostly on poppers and hard bodies with about 6 or 7 on fly.
Wednesday night only saw the one fish (65cm) taken due to windy conditions but it was a bit of a milestone being my first on fly (fourex dahlberg).
Thursday morning saw the boys spank my arse with both landing around 10 fish each to my half dozen on fly. Managed a sort of slam in that part of my tally included tarpon, giant herring and Barra, all taken on an olive bendback minnow.
Most fish were around the 65 to mid 70's although there were two bigger fish lost due to getting caught up in the lily and weed beds. All in all a great way to unwind after a hectic 3 week stint at work.
