« on: December 29, 2012, 08:34:04 PM »
anyone else tried the cheap lures at kmart '' super bass'' ? they dont always swim straight , but with a slight adjustment they seem fine, and catch fish! at under five bucks there great for them real snaggy places you dont really want to throw $30 into

Not tried any super bass ones, but their super bream ones have been a staple for the salt for me for years.
Secret to getting gear at Kmart (and Big W for that matter, the Berkley hard bodies are in the same sub $5 category) is to find a new store, then they actually have the shelves filled with stock, otherwise it never gets replenished.

Picked up some super bream lures and a couple of jarvis walker composite graphite rods ($35 each) for the kids bait fishing - from the Kmart that has replaced the Hypermart as Aspley just before christmas.

If the bass are in an agressive mood they dont care how much the lure costs or what it looks like. Week before last I carved 4 lures in a hurry, painted them next day and caught fish the day after. These lures were ugly but the bass didnt care as this time of the year in small creeks they will attack almost anything.

If you want really small lures Joey, my current favourites are River to sea baby cranks, (30mm) anaconda do a knock of version of them as well.

My all time favourite are a tiny storm king one, (25mm) but the bloke who used to sell them to me went and changed to importing Damaki lures (which I dont like), and they have stopped selling them now anyway, so the 2 left in my tackle box are it!

Sometimes instead of a lure I just put a plastic army man on a hook. Works well.

I'm with you Binder - the River2Sea range works well. Some are tiny but very effective. Got a Baby Vib that's mainly clear with a black back and have got some big bass on it.

For cheap but effective lures, I can't go past the Kokoda range. The 7gm G-Vibe, silvery sides, black back and a dash of purple underneath, is probably my alltime favourite bass lure for trolling. My go-to and very rarely misses. Most I've seen it sold for is $7.50 at BCF - can usually get it for under $5 at Big W.
