Eastern dams ramp closures
« on: December 20, 2010, 05:34:42 PM »
Just watched an article on the 10 news at 5 about Sommerset, Wivenhoe and another dam ( Barroon maybe ) where they have roped off the ramps for water hazard and safety reasons yet water skiers are not even paying attention as to why they are there and launching boats anyway..

How thick can you honestly get ? sure its a bummer the ramps are closed but closed for a good reason.
I expect they will not be the only dams effected in that way as there are a few rogue floaters getting around moogerah aswell from what i have seen myself and surely not the only dam in Qld.

My question to you is should not the people who break these rules and launch boats when warnednot to, force any penalties upon themselves in the way of a fine ?

They close Baroon as soon as there is a couple of inches going over. Was closed regularly last summer, pain in the but as you didn't know if it was open until you got there!

I had to do a drive to Crows Nest on Saturday, so did the 4 dams pass, Saw lots of skip baits heading for Somerset, and a number camped below the wall, a few fisho's heading for Cressbrook, No activity at all on Perserverence, and LOTS of water in Wivenhoe, which still has the gate open so I guess that's why the closure to watercraft on the river below it.
It was sure nice to see the water backed up all the Wivenhoe inlets, been a good while since I have seen that, and the island up towards hamon Cove are islands again instead of treed humps in a paddock of grass :youbeauty

North Pine Dam
North Pine gates are currently closed.

For more information about dam releases please call the Water Grid Release Information Hotline on 1800 613 122. For all road closure information always contact your local council.

Please note: Conditions will be extremely dangerous. With the rain having cleared, flood conditions still exist.

It would be great if SEQWater had a "subscribe to updates" where emails are sent out to those interested or affected.
