Title: Dumaresq River, Bonshaw.
Post by: Novice on July 13, 2014, 02:10:34 PM
WayneD and I went for a day trip down to the border again on Saturday. Pickup was organised for 5am and we were on our way.

Travelling past Leyburn the car's outside thermometer was showing quite the balmy temperature.

But once we arrived at our launch in Bonshaw it was back to a more manageable temp, so we thought.

First thing we noticed other than the hefty frost on the ground, was the dribble that was supposed to be the flow of the river.

Upon entering the water, one cannot describe the painful experience suffered by the extreme low temp of the water.

But Wayne came ready for snow.

Every portage was a lesson in pain.

It would have been soo much better with another foot or two of flow.

The fish thought so too. Not even a bump or a miss on any lures. The set line merchants camping on the banks were saying the same, no fish on lures or bait. The air temperature did not help, it almost felt like it was getting colder even though the sun was out.

We bailed and turned around. We knew we were beaten and there was no way of avoiding the donut.

We spent the arvo sight seeing further upstream. And marvelled at how low the water was in the feeder streams.

The Severn River from the bridge crossing on the Glenlyon-Mingoola road?

Some new signage has been erected on both sides of this bridge. Looks like another case of farmer brown attempting to scare the punters off from launching from this location. The new signs read, "Keep Out Private Property". Maybe this landholder is the Queenslander Paul Gallen was referring to when he said qlders have two heads.

Thanks Wayne for the day, it was fun. The diesel i30 is a very comfy ride.

Cheers,
Dave.

Is the electric fence across the river gone?
.

.
Those signs were put up on Qld land by the bloke on the NSW side of the river. Gotta hit the maps to see where the road reserve actually is on that Mingoola Crossing.......

He was listening to the Backstreet Boys when he arrived at my joint. I quickly flicked it over to 612abc to save my ears. :)

I didn't see a fence at the crossing, just the signs.
