10 PM Monday, Just looked at the BOM and we're about to cop another wet flogging. What with grandkids birthdays, work and other stuff getting in the way I haven't yet had a chance to fish my local river n creeks since the season opened. So how long do you guys usually wait after heavy rain before attempting a river/ creek outing?. Access can be difficult due to boggy banks. Gravity and mud are always great fun given that rivers are usually at the bottom end of a gravity event.
Then there is the water quality. How much does all that sediment and extra water flow affect fishy behaviour? They still gotta eat, and or get mad at lures. I guess its gonna be October now :( Living close to Pumicestone Passage don't help as the fresh still hangs around in there for at least a week after rains like these. Interested in your thoughts

Alot of the I recon if the water's clear enough to see your hand in the water when its in up to your elbow then its all good. All depends on the location & the species you're after.

a day or two if your fishing tops of the tide, a week for bottoms.
Non tidal, the second the water starts to move you should have lures in it!

I agree with fitzy if i can see my spinnerbait when its a meter down, the bass will come to play. But i still have to leave about a month on the Mary for the fishing to come back to 100%. Dunno whether its all the road works at federal or what, but it has been taking ages for the water clarity to improve enough to want to get out, not to mention the run hasnt slowed down at all since we started getting rain, which makes the journey back to the car that much more painful. :-\ I know for a fact after doing a tour of the abi groups job site for that stage the have a flocking process that is meant to minimize this. Bit i still think that its the road works thats causing the river to take so long to stabilize, because i doubt they would be able to treat 100%of the run off from the road works anyway.

The river I fish usually takes about 8 days or so to clear up to that level of clarity.
Moving on. The rivers out west often appear to be constantly carrying heavy silt and the water clarity seems to be around the zero mark yet fish and fishing thrives.?
