Radio Station 4BC to terminate Fishing Program
« on: December 05, 2013, 06:36:53 AM »
There is a post on Nuggets site about 4bc terminating their regular weekend fishing programs.
The thread is titled " end of an era" with links on how to protest.
Bit of a shame I have strong memories of listening to the program for a very long time. It is/was a good source of current conditions and safety issues and supported local businesses.
Also means that Fitzy will no longer be a star.
Hope that another station may pick up the ball if they go ahead with the axing.
Cheers
Ray

It will be sad to see the end of Nuggets show on 4BC.  I guess times change.  I hope he finds somewhere else to get on air.  Fitz may continue his cameo performances on River 94.9 on Saturday mornings.

Yep, they have some animal libber in there calling the shots now and apparently fishing is not what they wish to have on their station. Will be round the clock interviews with Chistine Milne & co going forward probably, or boring Moyd and Loretta....

There's a long list of names who have left that station recently, when Greg Carey retires shortly that'll be it for anything half decent on that station.

I have lodged my protestations to management, for no response, so I've deleted 4BC 1116am and their associated stations from my saved radio lists.

. I used to listen to a couple of mad bastards ( Think John daffey was one ) when I had to work weekends in the 80s. Show was then hosted by Ron Collins until he passed away and then taken over by his son Ben and then Dave.
The show has been the " Blue Hills" of the fishing fraternity.
I thought that it was a real plus when Daves program went state wide.
Hopefully one of the other am stations may pick it up the problem with a lot of the fm stations is their limited footprint and also a lot of them just broadcast pre-recorded programs at that time slot so do not have any talk back available.

Cheers
Ray

Friday is the last day I listen to 4bc. Once Gary Hardgrave is gone, nothing worth listening too. Sad about the fishing show going too. Add to that Paul Murray going in Sydney and it's fair to say that Fairfax are cleaning out anyone or anything not following the "Green/Left" ideologies..

Fitzy, what time is your report on River94.9? Will have to go back to FM now :)

No set time... Is pre recorded Friday and they run it when they can on saturday morning. Am going in to studio for a morning soon to discuss a few fishing related issues live. (When I get a chance)

I'm also peeved off with those animal huggers. Nugget's fishing programme is very informative and has a big following. A few people I know in their 80's are very keen on listening to Nuggets.

4BC will be losing a lot of diehard listeners, damn those cotton wool animal hugger bastards.

@ beau,

Best way to find out is call the Radio Station 4BC and ask them "Why" and justification, otherwise it's just guess work from others.
