The great redundancy fishing trip.
« on: October 04, 2011, 02:16:33 PM »
Well the time has finally come & my redundancy is only one month away.  After ten years with the one company I feel as I am due for a break.
The plan is to head north early November with my trusty tinny behind & new kayak on top, & spend about six weeks doing not a lot except fishing & exploring. First stop will be Monduran for a few days & then onto Boyne Island to catch up with an old mate. We had planned on spending a week fishing in the Colloseum estuary system, but due to the poisoning scare in & around Gladstone harbour we have decided to spend a week on a houseboat out of Tin Can Bay instead, should be hard to take. From there it's on to Pinnacle west of Mackay where I will catch up with the friendly owners of the Pinnacle Pub & spend a few days fishing Teemburra Dam. Next stop is Airlie Beach for a week or so with friends fishing the local creeks the islands & Peter Faust Dam.
Heading west from here I start to get into unknown territory, but am searching the maps & there seems to be a number of rivers & dams until I reach Theresa Creek Dam. One dam I have noticed is Burton Gorge Dam outside Elphinstone, can't seem to find much info on it, so if anyone knows anything I would appreciate some info.
Next stop is Lake Maraboon & then east stopping at some of the river spots listed in Fitzy's Inland Barra Trail, then it's on to Callide, Cania, Wuruma, Barambah & then home for Christmas.
After Christmas it's back up to Gladstone to jump on my mates trout boat & off to the Swains for a couple of weeks, it's a hard life but someones got to do it.
I think after all that I might need a holiday to get over it & then I suppose I better start looking for a job. I am planning to taking the lap top & will post regular updates with lots of photos.
Would be glad to catch up with any Sweetwater fisho's during my trip, so if you are on my travels please sing out.

Cheers Andrew

Andrew,

Make sure to upload your pictures into "Fishing Locations" , and if you are really keen embed the google map . That would be awesome.

Cheers,
Dave.

Have a good trip Andrew, but don't forget the rustwater either. Plenty of good stuff up that way. If you get to Lucinda check out the doing over at Hinchinbrook, it's well within range of a tinny and there's some great stuff over there. Just stay clear of the sugar wharf it's a no go zone now since Yasi.
Cheers,
John

It's okay Andrew. You go along and enjoy catching up with friends, fishing places you have not previously fished, travelling our great land. I certainly hope you enjoy it.
BUT..just remember some of us will have a sore back..toiling away and carrying those that are travelling about and fishing.

ya lucky bugger..I can only dream of getting even one week off..that will never happen.

Have been scouring Google maps & tinkering with the itinery & am now planning on spending three days at Cardwell & then on to Koombooloomba Dam. The country around there looks pretty awesome with lots of wild country & plenty of creeks to explore, I think I will need six months not six weeks.

Cheers Andrew

Not sure what happened to embedding the maps, will have to get some advise from the experts.

Thersesa  Creek dam is a great little dam it's has redcraw and is stock with Barra, the facilities include hot shower, shelter for camp sites and last time we where there it was about $10 a night, which I through was an excellent price for the facilities supplied. But that was about five years ago, so call in and give us an update, other than that enjoy your trip.
