Kayakers and canoeists can now access Hinze Dam from a dedicated launch point at the Western Boat Ramp.

The new paddle craft launch point will help reduce congestion at the popular boat ramp, located off Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, Advancetown.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said the launch point would provide easier access to Hinze Dam for paddle craft users.

“Feedback received during our Recreation Review supported the establishment of a dedicated paddle craft launch point,” Mr Dennis said.

“Community members told us they had trouble launching their craft at the existing boat ramp, particularly on busy days.

“This dedicated launch area will make paddling on Hinze Dam more accessible for kayakers and canoeists.”

Mr Dennis said shade shelters had also recently been installed over the picnic tables at the Western Boat Ramp.

“During the Recreation Review the community highlighted the need for shade over the existing picnic tables,” he said.

“Boaties and paddling enthusiasts can now enjoy a picnic under cover before or after their time on the lake.

“The picnic area also provides a picturesque spot for visitors who simply wish to relax alongside the lake.”

Seqwater’s recreation areas are open from 6am to 6pm, seven days a week.
