No more Baroon pocket until it rains for me.
« on: January 01, 2013, 02:52:46 PM »
Was up at Baroon pocket this morning, it has dropped significantly since boxing day when I was there last. When I was loading the boat on boxing day I realised it was down significantly from a fortnight earlier, then when hitching up the boat at the back of the trailer I saw I was past the end of the ramp!

Today the end of the ramp was well out of the water, a significant drop in 7 days.

I dont know what SEQ water are up to, but the dam is the lowest I have ever seen it (never seen the end of the ramp before, even at the driest time of the drought). Had a yarn with the lady that lives a couple of houses up from the gate, she confirmed its the lowest she has seen it since she has been there.

The web site says it is at 78%, I'm sure it was down around 60% in  the drought, but as I say no where near as low as it is now.

Photo with red arrow shows about where the water level was a week ago.

Anyway, I'll go for a look at the Montville end next weekend, but basically any further water drop and the Maleny end ramp wont be useable for me (probably not useable for most without a 4wd now, I just have a long trailer and shallow draft required for my boat).

My trailer wheels were in to the mud about 4 inches by the time I loaded the boat, the loam under water feels reasonably firm until you start working it or put a load on it.
I wasn't sure I was going to be able ot  "pop " it out, thought I may have had to skull drag the boat on to the ground before loading, but I got it.

Would have been no chance if my wheels were not on the concrete.

PS - Those stumps and rocks in the 3rd and 4th photo's, they are my gun bait fishing spot, in about 20 foot of water when the dam is at 100% !

Did you catch anything?
You have just talked me into going to Hinze tomorrow instead of BPD.
 Cheers
Ray

Just the one bass in my old spot, (well 30m further out, but same depth) had to pull up the anchor to untangle him from it. Wasn't letting him go without a photo, I'd been sitting there for two hours waiting for him!
Erin got a pair of mid 50's tandans.
