Fishing haul attracts $7000 fine

A recreational fisher, who hid a total of 656 whiting fillets and 43 portions of flathead in two locations, has been fined $7000 by the Ayr Magistrates Court for two separate fisheries offences this month.

One of the reasons I dont like my local fishing club comps running every fortnight, I know what those blokes are taking home, unless they have eaten nothing but fish for the fortnight they must still have a lot in their freezer when they are lining up for the next comp and then " bagging out" at the weigh ins. Truth be known they are probably "bagged out" before they put a line in the water.

Just don't get why people need so much.  Just take enough for a feed and maybe, just maybe there will be some left for everyone else.  The last time I took a fish out of the salt or sweetwater was about 8 years ago and even then it was because it needed to be dispatched for humane reasons.  I have no problems with people taking, just do it within the rules and only take what you need for a feed not a huge feast lasting three weeks.

Cheers
