Enjoy Lakes Moogerah and Maroon with your canine friend
Posted  13 June 2014   - Seqwater

Dog lovers are invited to include their beloved pets on trips to Lakes Moogerah and Maroon.

The Seqwater recreation areas at both lakes are now dog friendly.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Peter Dennis said the decision to allow dogs in these areas had resulted from last year’s recreation review.

“Feedback received from our September workshops highlighted the community’s desire to include their dogs on trips to the lakes,” Mr Dennis said.

“As a result, dogs have now been permitted to enter the day use area at Lake Maroon and Haigh Park at Lake Moogerah.

“This will enable families to enjoy time outdoors with their canine friends while at our Scenic Rim lakes.”

Mr Dennis said more than 2.6 million visitors frequented Seqwater lakes in 2013.

“Allowing dogs at Lakes Maroon and Moogerah will only serve to increase tourism to the Scenic Rim,” he said.

“A day trip to the lake will become much more convenient without the hassle of having to leave your pet at home.”

Mr Dennis said owners would be required to take measures to control their pets as a matter of public safety.

“Dogs will need to be kept on a leash and under control at all times, while waste will need to be collected and disposed of in the bins provided,” he said.

“Please note that dogs are not permitted to enter the lakes due to potential impacts on water quality.

“Seqwater rangers patrol the recreation areas at these lakes so if you have any queries, you can always ask the staff.”

The change to allow dogs in Haigh Park at Lake Moogerah does not extend to the grounds of Lake Moogerah Caravan Park. Visit scenicrim.qld.gov.au for a full list of dog off-leash areas in the region.
